The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo has been captured in an old tape admitting Mr. Alan Kyeremateng to be his successor.

It would be recalled Mr. Alan Kyerematen in 2007 made history when he decided to step down for his then main contender, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo to lead the party as its flagbearer.

The party would have conducted a run off for Alan and Nana Addo but that did not happen. This decision was made before the 2008 election making Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo a presidential candidate.

Now, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo will in 2024 complete his four year mandate as the president of Ghana. This has paved the way for many to contest the flagbearer ship position. So far, ten candidates are in the race for the position including Mr. Alan Kyerematen.

Many have indicated that if the statement made by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo is made to work, then Mr. Alan Kyerematen is the best man to become the flagbearer of the new Patriotic Party without contest. Unfortunately for Mr. Kyerematen, Ghana’s Vice President, Dr Mahamadu Bawumia is also in the race and many party sympathizers seem to be in his ship.

In a video captured by TV3 in 2007 Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addon in his words indicated that “I’ll do everything in my power not to let you down, with the decision you have made here. I hope my colleagues can forgive me but on this occasion, I single out one particular man; one man who gave me such a big run for my money.

“All I can say to him is what my predecessor flagbearer said to me many years ago, and I have never forgotten it. After our contest in 1998, came to my house to tell me, that he has to be President first before I become president. Alan will follow me.

“The gesture that he has made here is a gesture that comes with the resilience of the very best of tradition of our great movement and party.
“And in all that, owing a special word of gratitude, for making all our lives that much easier. Alan, thank you once again, thank you very much indeed.” He indicated.
