A twenty-five-year-old banker by name, Emmanuel Takyi is currently in the grips of the Ghana Police Service court to provide answers on how he was able to steal an amount of 1.2 million Ghana Cedis from the accounts of some customers of the bank.
The young boy, Emmanuel Sakyi, a contract employee in one of the biggest banks in the country is reported to have stolen the monies belonging to a deceased judge and a former Inspector General of the Ghana Police Service.
In his bid to outsmart the system, Afriyie transferred some of the stolen monies to his personal bank accounts in other banks. He also made transactions to the bank accounts of his collaborators numbering about 17 including mobile money accounts.
The young man is also reported to have bought a brand new iPhone 14 Pro Max, a Toyota Camry, and many others. He is also reported to have secured two airplane tickets in an attempt to travel with his girlfriend to Dubai.
He was already advanced with his plans but luck eluded him when security agencies had a hint of his move. On June 4, 2023, Emmanuel was apprehended at the Kotoka International Airport.
The suspect is alleged to have secretly secured the password of his boss with the camera of a mobile phone. This was when his boss was entering the password of her account.
Emma has since been watching the video to have access to the password-stealing monies of clients in a period of two months.
The suspect is currently on remand after he was paraded before the court with his accomplices.
His accomplices have however been granted bail by the court whilst the suspect is facing various charges including conspiracy and stealing, forgery of other documents, and falsification of accounts. He is currently facing thirteen charges whilst 11 other suspects are currently on the run.
