New UK Visa Fees 2023; UK Visa Application Fees (UPDATED)

The United Kingdom has announced a significant increase in visa fees, making travel to the country even more expensive. This article discusses the UK government’s most recent fee increase announcement, as well as the most recent changes to visa fees.

Furthermore, revisions to the immigration health surcharge, fee adjustments to assist professionals in balancing charges to offset migration expenses, and advice on how to prepare your UK visa application are all covered.

The UK government recently announced that visa fees for several categories, including study and work visas, would be increasing. As a result, fees for UK work visas will rise by 20%, reaching 1,482 pounds if the visa is for more than three years.

However, the cost of obtaining a student visa will rise by 15%, from 363 to 417 pounds

Remarks by the Chief Secretary on Visa Fee Changes

The UK Treasury’s chief secretary, John Glenn, spoke about the upcoming reforms. According to him, the increase in visa fees will also affect other visa categories such as postgraduate work visas, indefinite leave to remain (ILR), certificate of sponsorship expenses, settlement status, and so on. Priority visa application fees are also expected to rise significantly.

Changes to the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS)

Another notable change is the expansion of the IHS, which now covers all costs associated with a couple’s health care. As a result, the annual primary rate will rise to 1,035 pounds. Meanwhile, students and minors will pay a fee of 776 Pounds.

How Visa Fee Reductions Will Benefit Professionals

Surprisingly, these fee increases are expected to generate more than £1 billion in revenue to support pay raises for various professions such as teachers, doctors, junior doctors, and police officers. Furthermore, the additional funds raised by visa fees will allow the Home Secretary to provide financial support to police forces, thereby reducing migration costs.

In addition to the proposed reforms, the UK government intends to equalize expenses for students and other applicants.

Taking Advantage of Priority Services

It seeks to maintain consistency without regard for the application’s location. Most importantly, this action is expected to effectively offset the costs of the border system and migration. We strongly advise you to budget for your UK visa applications in accordance with the most recent fee schedule.

Applicants must consider the additional costs when applying for a UK work or study visa. If you want to relocate to the United Kingdom, carefully consider your financial situation.

Priority Services in the United Kingdom

Family visas are given special consideration, which includes shorter wait times and faster decisions. The UK home office reinstated the priority service for those requesting entry into the UK to live with family members in February 2023. This path, however, is mostly applicable to spouses and children.

The adjustment comes after a difficult period in which decision-waiting times exceeded six months. Because of the situation in Ukraine, the Home Office had to shift workers to deal with the massive volume of emergency applications that came in.

The standard wait time for visa applications is three months, but applicants from other countries had to wait six months. The six-month burden was difficult for families who had been separated for extended periods of time.

Priority Service

The priority service should deliver a decision in less than 30 working days, or six weeks. An additional 573 pounds is required to use this service.

As a result, it’s critical to remember that not all apps are appropriate for priority service. If the application is not basic and simple, a decision within 30 working days is not guaranteed, but it will be moved to the front of the line at every level of the decision-making process.

Waiting Times Reduced

Waiting times have improved as the Ukrainian workload has decreased in recent weeks. Furthermore, those who apply for multiple family visas may now receive a faster decision as a result of the new priority service. Family visa applications are processed in 60 working days rather than the traditional 12-week period.

Which Visas are Included?

The new priority service and waiting times will apply to the following visas;

  • Partner, spouse, civil partner, and unmarried partner
  • Fiancée or proposed civil partner.
  • Child and adult-dependent relative
  • Application Fees

The cost of using one of these premium services is in addition to the standard visa application fee. The priority and super-priority services are both optional.

The 5-day priority service costs 573 pounds for settlement and 250 pounds for non-settlement, in addition to the standard visa or settlement application fee.

In addition to the usual visa or settlement application fee, the following working day super priority service costs 956 pounds.

If family members apply at the same time as the primary applicant, they must pay an additional 573 pounds. A decision in five working days costs 250 pounds. Alternatively, 956 pounds will get you one by the end of the next working day.

Individual family members who apply together should not expect to hear back at different times. As a result, if one member of the family wants to receive a judgment sooner, each member of the family must apply through a premium service.

Even if a visa application is denied, the premium service fee is non-refundable. The same rule applies if the application decision takes longer than expected.

How to Book a Priority or Super Priority Visa Appointment

After an appointment, the option to apply via the super priority visa service or the priority visa service appears. If appointments are listed as unavailable, the weekly allotment of appointments for premium services does not exist. Additional appointments are frequently made available once per week.
