Remove afrobeat as a genre from all music awards schemes in Ghana – Kelly Nii Lartey Mensa
Ghana as a country is well known for doing variety of song genres and still doing more. Over the years, there is a debate as to Ghanaian music taking a turn of events moving from it original genre on music (Highlife) to AfroBeat.
This is really becoming the new genre for Ghanaian as most of the new era of artistes termed to say they are doing AfroBeat music.
From a post chanced on by wadupgh.com, renounced media personality, Kelly Nii Lartey Mensah has cautions music award organisers to consider eradicating “AfroBeat” as a category from their list to help defeat the fight again such and keep pushing our genre of music.
He also added that Ghana need to have an independent national music academy because “Music is science and arts ”

There’s no afrobeat in the Volta region urban music industry. They are making big progress with Amapiano and Hiplife. Finish.
In Kumasi, drill music aka asakaa is massive there, followed by Highlife.
In Accra, you will get 20% Afrobeat, 34% amapiano , followed by rap, highlife and contemporary gospel.
This is a clear justification to remove afrobeat as a genre from all music awards schemes in Ghana.
Ghana must have an independent national music academy. Because music is science and arts!!
