TikTok Overtakes YouTube For Average Watch Time In The US & UK – App Annie
TikTok Beats YouTube in Average Watch Time Per User for Apps in US, UK – According to a survey provided by analysis firm App Annie, TikTok has surpassed YouTube in terms of average viewing time per user in the United States and the United Kingdom. The short-video software is said to have “turned the streaming and social environment on its head.” In the first half of 2021, it dominated the global app market in terms of downloads. The growth comes despite the ban of TikTok in India, which was the largest market for the app. YouTube retains its leadership for overall time spent among social, communication, photo and video, and entertainment apps globally.
According to App Annie, the average watch time per user on TikTok in the United States was approximately 9% higher than on YouTube. The margin was significantly bigger in the United Kingdom, where users spent almost 64 percent more time on TikTok than on YouTube, according to the research.
TikTok first surpassed YouTube in the UK back in May 2020 and it has maintained the lead since. In the US, TikTok and YouTube have been swapping the top spot since August last year, though the former started to dominate in April this year.
