Akyode Delegates To Boycot NPP Parliament Primaries

Press Release
This serves as notice to the public and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) leadership that all Akyode delegates would not be present in the Saturday, December 2, 2023, NPP parliamentary elections.

It is worth noting that during a press conference on Thursday, November 30, 2023, at the International Press Center, we said unequivocally that Akyodes will no longer

longer take part in party events, such as the 2024 General Elections and the Parliamentary Primaries this year. We continue to support our choice.

This follows our registered disappointment in the leadership of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) over their failure to provide adequate security for the celebration of our yam festival; thus, making us not only vulnerable but also victims of deadly attacks from our belligerent neighbors.

Also, the stunning silence and indifference of the party leadership and government appointees with the impression that the party neither cherishes our participation nor recognizes our in the Municipality and Region towards our plights in the current conflict situation leaves us membership in the party anymore. This denial and betrayal of trustis least expected especially from a party that Akyodes have consistently and unanimously endorsed since the beginning of constitutional rule.

Our decision is also informed by the fact that the security situation in Nkwanta remains highly volatilesince our assailants have still not been arrested; and this makes it more precarious for our people (Akyodes) who have become targets for unwarranted attacks and arrests, to participate in Saturday’s nationwide political exerciseat Nkwanta.

In the meantime, we are still mourning our people who were gruesomely murdered, and sympathizing with those whose houses and other properties were destroyed. We therefore wish to be left alone, just as we have been neglected by the party and left to our fatein our most dreadful and difficult times. We are confident, however, that with or without the party’s support, we shall triumph in the land of our ancestors.

Our votes may be immaterial to the outcome of Saturday’s Primaries. But we know that we surelycount someday. Meanwhile, we wish the party and all parliamentary aspirants
good luck.

Thank you
