The following is a list of international scholarships that are offered in Portugal:

1. Portuguese Government Scholarships (For studying Portuguese language and culture):
The Portuguese government offers a variety of scholarships.

International students can apply for a 12-month scholarship in education, language, and culture from Instituto Camoes. The goal is to draw gifted individuals from around the world to Portuguese language and culture.

There is another scholarship for students studying the Portuguese language or culture in a foreign university. The grant involves a monthly stipend of about 450 EUR along with 375 EUR given at the start of the scholarship. The awardees must be below the age of 45 and must be currently studying in an international institution.

The Portuguese Institute for Development Apoioao (Instituto Portugues de Apoio ao Desenvolvimento) is offering scholarships to international students who belong to those countries which were previously a part of Portuguese territory. These scholarships are pretty generous and cover tuition fees, accommodation costs, study material, and book costs. It also gives a monthly stipend to the awardees.

2. Católica Lisbon School of Business & Economics, Nova School of Business and Economics Scholarships:
Católica Lisbon School of Business & Economics, Nova School of Business and Economics is offering MBA scholarships to both local and international students. The MBA program is for one year and is intended to teach the management skills and competencies required to succeed in the contemporary business environment.

The scholarship award varies from student to student and offers a tuition fee waiver of up to 50%. The scholarship will be awarded to students with extraordinary professional and academic records. Students have to demonstrate their financial needs as well. They will be evaluated through an interview which will help the scholarship committee determine the interpersonal skills of the candidates.

All the candidates are supposed to submit their GMAT scores (minimum 670) and they should also have a minimum CGPA of 3.0 out of 4.

3. University of Porto Scholarships:
Scholarships for international students are offered by the University of Porto in the bachelor’s masters and doctoral streams. The scholarships are open for all the subject areas and around 144 students will be benefited from them.

The scholarships are awarded under the MOBILE+3 project by the University of Porto in collaboration with the European Erasmus Program. Erasmus Mundus has initiated a Key Action 1 International Credit Mobility program which aims at mobilizing students in and out of Europe.

The scholarship grant allows a monthly allowance and travel expenses of the students between their home country and the host country. It also offers health, accident, and travel insurance which will be valid until the scholarship period is over.

As this is an exchange program, the students/staff should belong to an institution that comes under the consortium of the Erasmus Program and the undergraduate students should be in their second year of studies. The master’s students must have completed their 1st semester in their home country. As for Ph.D. students, they should have completed their 1st year of studies. This scholarship is eligible for the partner institutions of Algeria, Armenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Canada, Egypt, Georgia, Morocco, Russian Federation, Serbia, South Africa, Thailand, Ukraine, United States, and Uzbekistan.

4. Carnegie Mellon University Scholarships:
Carnegie Mellon University is calling out applications for its dual degree programs of Ph.D. for students from all over the world. CMU of Portugal and the USA are offering this scholarship and this scholarship is open for nine Ph.D. programs.

A dual degree Ph.D. enables students to study in two different institutions during their Ph.D. This way the students can benefit from the culture, faculty, and teaching methods of two educational institutions. CMU dual degree program is open for the following subject areas:

- Computer Science (CS)

- Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE)

- Language Technologies (LTI)

- Computer Science: Robotics (CS-R)

- Technological Change and Entrepreneurship (TCE).

- Mechanical Engineering (ME)

- Engineering and Public Policy (EPP)

- Applied Mathematics

- Software Engineering (SE)

The candidates are supposed to submit the results of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) if their first language is not English as well as the scores of GRE. The test scores (for GRE) older than five years will not be accepted.

The grantees will get full study coverage during their time in Portugal and a monthly stipend to cover their living expenses.

5. University of Minho Scholarships:
In collaboration with the European Institute of Excellence, the University of Minho is offering Ph.D. fellowships in a number of programs. This scholarship is aimed towards local Portuguese citizens and students from the member countries of the European Union. The candidates can apply to any Ph.D. program offered by the University but only the students with exceptional professional and academic records will be granted admission and scholarships.

It covers the tuition fee, living expenses, and insurance expenses of the grantees.
